Dunno why but I forced myself to watch the highlights. Not sure why Pellegrini doesn't see it but I and many others have said it for ages, we do not have the players to play a two in central midfield. Certainly if you are going to try and pass it about. One of the goals especially may not have happened if Rice had been sitting deep in a three, when Obiang trod on the ball and was dispossessed.

The thing is we then also do not have the players (bar Arnautovic) to play one up top if we have three in midfield. Carroll, Hernandez and Perez are not lone striker material.

You "could" potentially play two up if you played a narrow 4132 with Rice holding and three CM's ahead of him but then you a) can't play any wide men and b) our full backs are not good enough to have no cover in front.

So in a nutshell whatever formation Pellegrini plays as the squad is at present he will always have weaknesses in the team but what he must do until he can potentially sort that is stop playing with just the two in central midfield but I doubt he will somehow.

"There are tournaments that just dont mean as much. And thats based on how everyone who's in them treat them. Thats all I'm saying"

that's the only tournament, along with the league cup that we have any hope of winning. finishing fourth from bottom isn't success you stupid cunt

Call me every name under the sun, (good luck with that, given your repetitiveness) but at least I'll never defend those parasites on here or anywhere else.

Years of poor and / or under investment has left us with a lopsided unbalanced and poor squad

Last summer was the only time that we invested in quality, most of the previous signings have been shocking.

Poor management decisions at the top

Countless poor signings, especially strikers.

They ALWAYS went with the cheap option until recently

Ah, bless. He's triggered. Triggered enough to even leap to their defence over a simple statement of fact regarding it being the same sorry story under their shitty reign.

I think you've missed the decisive factor of why we lost the game, ioc.

The owners.

And regardless of the team put out, not easy when someone in as important a position as Obiang and with his experience plays like an absolute cunt, you're already on the back foot.

Can't even think of a single player coming out of it with any credit, other than maybe Anderson.

Just one of those days where everyone played like helmet's.

An attempt at a balanced view, with as little hindsight as possible.

- There was a motivation problem.
That is partly down to the manager
Maybe partly down to beating another lower league team 8-0 with a similar line-up this season.
But in the end, it is down to players and whether they value this Cup.
We beat this team this year so should have been extra vigilant.

- The starting line-up
A similar line-up just beat Birmingham and with different fullbacks this team earlier in the year, as well as destroying Macclesfield Town.
It certainly was good enough to win on paper (which is obviously worth nothing)
Missing three of keys to this year's team Rice, Fabianski and Anderson.
(- Adrian always seems jittery to an extent and that is why I loved the idea of getting Fabianski in the summer. But can you keep any kind of decent backup without playing them in the Cup? And we won 3 other cup games against lower league opposition with him, conceding 1 goal in the process.
- Anderson came on in order to beat these guys before, played very little against Birmingham and none in the big game. Maybe he should have started, go back to the head to head.)
- Rice played against Maccelsfield because Sanchez broke, not against Birmingham but the full game against this lot before. Again based on the head-to-head maybe he was needed.)
It is hard in a season to make players irreplaceable but if you want to guarantee a win maybe you have to with some players, even against lower league teams

- Subs
Good three were made, sent the right message.
Generally the right subs save one in my opinion.
Even if we were losing, Rice needed to come on, we had enough firepower, especially with Anderson. Someone else would have scored Perez's goal, if we want to do hypothetics

But watch them waltz through the midfield for the third goal.

I think we could have got something with Fredericks, Anderson and Rice. Attack is the focus for this manager, which is nice a lot but need to shore up something to effectively attack in that second half.

I just don't really understand the mentality of a lot of football fans nowadays.

Surely for a club like ours where both winning the league or coming in the top 4 is a million miles out of our grasp, winning the FA Cup should be everything to us and what we strive to win the most.

I mean we're not even in a relegation battle or anywhere near one, so it's pathetic weakening a team.

I bet Spurs players can't fucking wait to get home to their trophy cabinets every summer and stick a newspaper clipping in there showing that they've come 3rd, while their neighbour who plays for Arsenal stick yet another cup winners medal in theirs!!!

I'm as fucked off as anyone about Saturday, but how the fuck are some people digging out the owners for it?

I'm no fan of them, but fucking hell, they've paid top dollar for a manager, finally provided proper transfer funds, stayed out his way, yet some idiots are trying to blame them for this defeat?

Every owner of every club would rather stay in the Prem tha win a Cup, because financially it's crippling. But there is absolutely nothing to suggest they had any baring on the team that was picked on Saturday ffs

Some of you lot are proper fucking weirdos.

"I hated relegations too but then we've been promoted back within a couple of seasons on each occasion "

I think we were really lucky to get out. Both I think done in the playoffs. Both under considerable financial pressure (we lost lots of our best players the 1st time). I do wonder if we would ever have got out if we had failed in the play offs.

There are plenty of more succesful clubs than us that never got back up and will probably stay there for an eternity. Leeds is only just recovering and they were CL regulars.

The gulf in the money you can make in the PL vs the Champions league is making things even harder. Wolves and Fulham spend like established PL / European teams. Cardiff are going back down.

My point is, its really fucking hard to get back. Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the country.. look at them...

I suppose the difference is now that most of us feel we are safe so we should have put our 1st team out there.

But I think he must have promised the second string that they would get a run out in the cup and kept his word with them, so as to keep everyone motivated.

Thats just the price you pay to keep the harmony in the team etc..

I'm just choosing not to be so pissed off about stuff like this.
